A short series of Kaz vignettes.

Event One:

Kaz just finished destroying Trendafilka in a duel. He doesn't look happy about it as he's taken a seat at the bar at Flamvell, nursing a water. Guy looks like he's got alot on his mind. Maybe you can help ease it? Or make it worse. Lord knows he deserves worse.

Event Two:

He's at the docks, with a huge bag next to him, eyeing some boat rentals. He looks pretty shady.

Event Three:

He's in a suit, at LDS. He's got an important meeting, it looks like. So, he's on his way to, or he's already waiting. Kaz is timely, like he's keeping it mostly together.

Miss Hiragi? Mister Briar, synchro teacher at LDS and officer at OOPARTS.

I've been meaning to get to ya on this, but I've been busy and ya've cropped up a few times when I've been keeping up with the junior league. There's no doubt in my mind now. I ran into a girl that looked just like ya a few weeks ago in a really shady part of town.

"Oh, uh. She's dueling the top Ryozanpaku guy for her spot in the finals. And whatever else eats at teenage beast children."

He waves a hand.

"I assume romance."

Yeah, don't even get me remotely started on that shit show.

Romance is good though.

"Now I'm curious about the shit show opinions."

A sigh as he finishes the water.

"I think she's trying to harem some poor kids. Which... goes bad."

... Harems don't work, trust me. Unless you're Shrieves and I think that's due to some Noriko level black magic.

As to the Super Junior League, it's clear someone's bribing or at the top, is keeping these kids violently assaulting each other with no recourse.

I'd figure the Yakuza but I doubt they'd be that into this.

"Yeah, I think so too. Tried it at her age through my thirties and..." He sighs. "Just a little rough, y'know? She's probably the bastard kid most like me and she's making all of the same mistakes I did and I ain't her real dad and can't tell her to stop."

He pauses.

"I, uh. Asked a Yakuza contact." He glances at the bar, then the backroom where your boss is.

"Not them."

Then who. It couldn't be Kaiba. He doesn't believe in violence as people do, if you read his interviews. He wants Dueling to replace warfare and violent conflict.

... And I see.

"Yeah, he does. And it ain't our resident billionaire Wakahisa's either. Which leaves... My other boss."

A sigh.

"So, I'm gonna go talk ta Akaba. If I don't return, let my shitty kids know their shitty dad loved them as much as he could."

He cracks up a little.

"They wanna get into black market 12 Dimension stuff, but pro dueling ain't their thing. Maybe if this was the underground, where I've hustled a decent chunk of change, but... they're being kept out though. Almost like they don't have a base here in Domino and someone with decent morals and ties ain't allowing it." He gestures vaguely towards the back again.

I was talking with Shiroko the other day on the phone and something came up. Apparently All the real estate in the city is literally owned by four people. Or rather companies.

Black Velvet Enterprises.

Kaiba Corporation.

Leo Corporation.

or 阿隅子会社, Akumako Corp, owned by Kouji, a friend of mine who's a real estate moguel.

And of what I've heard, Kaiba is basically only letting the other three have any property as long as they bend to some pretty odd restrictions.

"...Yeah? ... that's really weird. Beyond weird, actually.

What kinda restrictions?"

His eyes have lit up and he's grabbed a few napkins, produced a slightly chewed on pen, and is ready.

Shiroko wasn't sure either, apparently Kouji couldn't say what, and talking to Noriko sounds like the willies. But.

It sounded like Cameras. Phone Lines. Computers. And Duel Disks. What about them, I'm not sure.

"I can probably ask Moeko at some point. Not that she'd tell me, but she'd at least gimme something to go on. Maybe. It's kinda hard to tell sometimes."

He frowns.

"Disks... Maybe... Hrm. And then with everyone in the city needing to be duelists... Weird."

Yeah. I'm hearing the city council's about to sign off on that proposal.

"Great, good.

Makes ya think we might be the next target for what happened in Heartland, huh? And there's something the rich and powerful ain't telling us common folk."

So why would they mention a word of it. Even the national government seems to prefer to sweep everything under the rug.

He growls and waves a hand.

"Fucking suits. Nothing changes, huh?"
