A.) Atop something high, with a bottle of whisky and his gigantic cork board. This one still has the 'Heartland' section, but neatly divided up by almost straight lines are two other sections: One is 'That case I can't talk about' which is... blank. And the second is 'Race to the bottom' the subtitle of which is 'one of my garbage daughters will one day destroy an important feature of reality. Which one will it be first?'

Here, he's set up a speaker with his tablet and he's listening to some classic rock but seems... very distracted even though this is probably relevant problems.

B.) He is downtown, looking in and out of jewelry stores, never really saying a word.

Hey, I got a weird hint. Ain't much, but... Apparently my fiance's heard rumors of a group of people that'll do hack jobs like the one on Rose. They ain't cheap and they seem to be the kind of people who'll approach you rather than you contacting them. She's also OOPARTS and has a pretty good head on her shoulders, so.

I, uh. May dip out of town for a bit, personal business calls. Anyone in particular you'd want me to hand over all my files and shit to while I'm out? And in case I'm devoured by a howling void?

... Right, Samasus. He clears his throat and in a little rusty Russian:

"Hello."

*... oh! You know Russian. He switches to that.*

Hello. Is there something you wanted here? You keep sulking around, and I think it's going to worry my mom.

"Yeah? I'm...

... have we met? You seem pretty familiar."

I've been around places. Aren't there people around here who look really similar?

"I'm not going to be one of those 'All those Samasus look alike' people.

Maybe a friend of my daughter? Trendafilka?"

*-- oh god you're Trena's dad? Right, you're that big guy who was making that weird situation at Kaibaland, uh...*

*Slate's saved though when a blonde woman comes over, asking in Russian if there was something wrong. Slate responds that things are fine, but the blonde woman still frowns at Kaz, since this is a suspicious shaggy older man asking a teenager things...*

Um... Maybe you should get back to what it is you wanted?

Aaaand confirmed for his mental health and not trying to figure it out.

"Ah, sorry. Yes, I would like to purchase an engagement ring."

*the woman lights up when she hears that, assuming you're still speaking Russian, and helps guide you over to the counter display, speaking enthusiastically (and probably a bit too quickly for your rusty language grasp) about the different types, the different clarity levels...

Slate follows along though.*

He nods slowly, trying to follow as long as best as he can. Man he hasn't used this in years. This is probably the place though. He'll take Slate as an omen.

"Yeah? She's a bit rough around the edges, like me. Uh... I apologize, haven't spoken Russian in many years."

Otherwise he'll just listen to her go on about something she's clearly passionate about.

*The woman understands that you haven't really been used to Russian, and she slows down. But she also says that her assistant here will help if you'd rather speak Japanese. The assistant is a young woman with brown hair tied into a bun.

She does show a couple diamond rings-- one with a black diamond, another with two-tone golden look... Even one with a mix of black and white diamonds.*

"I should practice my foreign languages, ma'm, if you don't have any trouble bearing with me. Let me know if you get... too frustrated with my poor skills.

...I actually really like that one with the black diamond only, seems about right for what I'm looking for, ma'm."

*she shows off a few of the ones that are dominantly black diamonds, then. Such as one with black diamonds around the band, or a much simpler one with sterling silver, or one that does have white diamonds, but keeps the black diamond as the central focal point. Each, of course, with their equivalent prices.

She also asks if you know the band size you need.*

He grins at the band size, waving his pinky.

"Whatever'd fit on here is gonna fit on her. Couldn't figure out a good way to get it, so um... kinda memorized how big the finger was compared to my hands.

...Man, you guys have some of the best stuff in town. Uh... I REALLY think the one with black diamonds around the band might be the best one."

*she nods, and repeats the price for it. Will you pay for it now, need a payment plan, or...?

Slate meanwhile watches from behind the counter as his mom works out all of these details.*

He's got a credit card, because against all odds, Kaz has had a steady job going on for years now and is becoming a stable adult!

... at about fifty.

"Ah, thank you kind folks very much. I'll be sure to send people your way and come back for stuff in the future, yeah?"

*she smiles. you're in luck, they do have a band in of that size, so she gets it ready for you.*
